When you live and work long enough here in the graveyard of common sense, you come across a lot of people whose sole contribution to the planet may be converting oxygen to carbon dioxide. Since it’s what the plants need. Not Brawndo.
Apologies for the tired Idiocracy meme. Really. And the uber awful quality of that clip.
So in the course of the last few years, I’ve seen a lot of really dumb things written about Afghanistan. But then you run across people like Jason Lyall, who do not suck, and are thoughtful, and make points like this:
Lots of loose talk tonight about the “end of Afghan War.” The American phase, maybe. But not for ANSF, Taliban, & civilians caught between
— Jason Lyall (@jaylyall_red5) May 28, 2014
Given the fact that violence spiked for civilians last year in Afghanistan, and the uncertainties faced by Afghan forces, Jason’s spot on: it’s ending for the white people. Which, I guess, is the point of the Noble Order of White Helpfulness: if we’ve met our goals, does it really matter what happens to the Afghans?
